Most Auticon employees are on the autism spectrum – highly qualified specialists who analyse and improve IT systems. Major players including Vodafone and Siemens count on their expert consulting. Deutscher Gründerpreis partners stern, Sparkassen, ZDF and Porsche were impressed by the idea to channel the mostly unrecognised potential of autism-specific strengths and talents within the field of IT consulting. ‘That’s what we call genuine social entrepreneurship. Auticon improves the quality of life of its employees and reintegrates mostly disadvantaged people into society.’ The initiative thus honoured Auticon for its innovative approach. ‘This is the highlight of my career so far‘, says Dirk Müller-Remus. ‘The media attention that comes with this award helps raising public awareness and acceptance for autism. I want people on the autism spectrum to be taken seriously and to be recognised as the valuable personalities they are.’
Dirk Müller-Remus’ autistic son inspired him to launch Auticon. Müller-Remus saw that many on the autism spectrum have very few career options, often despite being highly gifted and qualified.
In November 2011 Müller-Remus quit his CEO position at a health-tech organisation and with Auticon launched an enterprise that creates fruitful ground for the unique talents of its staff: extremely detailed technical knowledge, a pronounced awareness for quality and above-average pattern recognition abilities are only some of the outstanding strengths. Every consultant has a job coach, organising practical matters in the background and preparing clients and consultants for successful collaborations. People on the autism spectrum often thrive on structure and routine, prefer familiar faces and are noise-sensitive. It’s essential that clients are aware of those unique features.
Auticon having overcome a number of initial hurdles, the media and potential clients caught on to the unusual consulting concept. Today more than 50 businesses count on the exceptional services of approximately 50 consultants across six branches in Germany.
