Autism Anglia | Life Chances Conference
auticon proudly supported Consultant Thomas’ talk at the Life Chances Conference
What a day at Firstsite gallery Colchester!
Autism Anglia brought together ten fantastic speakers who all believe that people on the autism spectrum should have the same life chances as their neurotypical peers.
“The Life Chances Conference will focus on attitudes towards neurodiversity and how best to support people on the autism spectrum. Esteemed professionals and autistic individuals will share research and ideas on continuing to develop a society where people on the autism spectrum are valued, supported and celebrated as integral members of a diverse world, from childhood through to older age.”
The talks, which were directed towards autistic people, academics, support workers, service industry workers and many more, focused on autism as a social and political identity, on parents’ perspectives of autism as well as autistic women.
auticon Job Coach Dr. Lisa Harkry attended Consultant Thomas’ talk, which focused on the impact of being autistic on various aspects of his life. He discussed both positive and negative aspects, whilst addressing the lack of understanding that causes autism to be viewed as a disability.
